The Manchester Beautification Project is located in the 1700 block of Fulton Street between Juniata and Lake Streets on the City of Pittsburgh's northside. The local community group, Manchester Citizens Corporation (Beautification Committee) chose to create a Memorial garden theme for this project honoring residents from the community who have passed on. Initial plans for the site include planting small trees, ornamental shrubs and grasses. Each spring, an annual planting event will be held. The plants chosen for the annual ceremony are the Knock Out ™ series of shrub roses. They are known for their disease resistance and minimal maintenance and are well suited for an urban environment.

Initial site preparation was provided by the Redd Up crew in the Fall of 2007 followed by removal of invasive weed species. Three adjacent lots, requiring grading and additional weed management, will be prepared in the Spring of 2008.

Penn State Extension is currently working with the local community group to finalize the design and planting material list for the site. Community volunteer training and plant installation is also scheduled for the Spring of 2008.

The Manchester Beautification Project is the result of the efforts of
the following individuals and organizations:
