larimer before

The Larimer Beautification Project is located at the intersection of Meadow and Lenora Streets.  Situated on both sides of the street, this location was chosen as a gateway planting for entering Pittsburgh’s  Larimer community. The City of Pittsburgh’s Reddup crew undertook the initial site preparation removing debris including a few large invasive trees.  Penn State Extension designed a planting plan for the site utilizing species adapted to urban conditions with few insect and disease problems. On April 23, 2007, fifteen Larimer community leaders and members installed the plant material on the site.  Training was provided with instruction on the proper planting techniques and follow-up maintenance for successful establishment.  Ten days later, a turfgrass mixture with a slower growth rate, intended to reduce mowing frequency was applied by hydroseededing.
